Liars, the experimental rock trio, spent their formitive years in Brooklyn and recently relocated to Los Angeles.

Angus Andrew has been the only consistent member since inception and now has returned to his LA roots.

WIXIW (pronounced “wish you”) will be their 6th album and is due next week. The title is a palindrome.

“No.1 Against the Rush” is the first single.

Chromatics is an electronic music band from Portland, Oregon led by Adam Miller.

Kill For Love is the band’s 4th album.

In March we noted that the Morning Benders had changed their name to POP ETC.

At that time the band gave us a free mixtape as a precursor to their first album under their new moniker. It is still available on the their website.

The self-titled album is now due next month.

“Keep It For Your Own” is a free download from the record.

The Afghan Whigs

Tonight the Afghan Whigs will perform their first show in over 13 years.

Greg Dulli formed the band in 1986. The Whigs broke-up in

2001, reformed briefly in 2006 and then reunited in 2011.

“See and Don’t See” is their first new release in 5 years and is also a free download.

(The song was originally recorded in 1970 by a Southern soul singer named Marie “Queenie” Lyons who released only one album before disappearing into obscurity.)

Amanda Palmer

Amanda Palmer hasn’t recorded a proper solo album since 2008.

She’s been busy touring and recording live and occupying herself with side projects like Evelyn Evelyn, ukulele covers of Radiohead songs, theatre acting and the occasional tour with the Dresden Dolls.

Amanda Palmer & the Grand Theft Orchestra is due in September.

Via Kickstarter she has impressively raised over $800,000 to date to finance the album.

“Do It With a Rockstar” is the first song from the album and a free download.

He is a singer/songwriter and guitarist but for the past 4 years has drummed for Fleet Foxes.

He has recorded 8 solo albums since 2004, but this is his first as Father John Misty. The album is Fear Fun on Sub Pop which offers a couple of free downloads from this multi-talented artist.

Lower Dens

Lower Dens is a band from Baltimore led by Texas-raised front-woman Jana Hunter.

Nootropics is their just released 2nd album.

“Brains” is the first single and available as a free download.

I’m also particularly fond of the new featured track “Propagation” as heard here in this video.

Damon Albarn

Damon Albarn, the amazing talent behind Blur and Gorillaz, has composed an opera entitled Dr Dee.

The opera is based on the life of John Dee (1527-1609), an intellectual and scientist who also immersed himself in the occult studies of magic, astrology, alchemy and the supernatural. He served as an advisor to Queen Elizabeth I.

Dr Dee debuted in July, 2011 at the Manchester International Festival.

The soundtrack is just now available.

“The Dancing King” from the album is a free download.

Joey Ramone

Dear friend Joey Ramone died in 2001.

I miss our late-night all-night phone conservations of music, art and life, his warmth, his passion, his compassion.

…ya know? is Joey’s 2nd posthumous album due later this month.

“What Did I Do to Deserve You?” is a free download from the album.

If the chorus sounds familiar it is lifted from “Beat on the Brat” from the first Ramones album.

The Canadian band Metric release their 5th album in June.

The band has grown exponentially since 2003 and the new album Synthetica will add to their renown.

One listen to the new single and you will know what I mean.

“Youth Without Youth” is wildly infectious and is already one of my favorite songs of the year.
