Last year, the legendary musician/poet Gil Scott-Heron released I’m New Here, his first album in over fifteen years. In our first podcast here we featured the song “Me and the Devil”.

He is considered by many to be the “godfather of rap” due to his spoken word collaborations in the late 70’s and 80’s.

Gil Scott-Heron is the man who coined the phrase “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”, the title of one of his best-known compositions. He has been an activist for change throughout his artistic career.

In his later years he served time for drug possession.

I’m Here Now has now been remixed by Jamie Smith from the xx and re-titled We’re New Here.

Gil Scott-Heron not only influenced generations of hip hop artists but this young producer as well who grew up listening to him via his parents’ record collection.

Here is the remix of the song now entitled “I’ll Take Care of U” followed by the original “I’ll Take Care of You”.
