Fiona Apple

It’s difficult to describe the brilliance of Fiona Apple’s new album as she defies musical conventions.

Fetch the Bolt Cutters is a paean to feminist power in all of its idiosyncrasies and nuances. Her voice, from whisper to a scream, with found percussion and zigzagging song structures, is mesmerizing.

This album deserves a complete listen so it is problematic to select one representative song; therefore, I’ll give you 2 to intrigue: the title track “Fetch the Bolt Cutters” and “Under the Table”.

“Fetch the Bolt Cutters”

“Under the Table”

Austra

Austra is a band but the only permanent member is singer/songwriter Katie Stelmanis.

It’s been 3 years since the last album. Expect Hirudin on May Day.

The song “Anywayz” is an alluring advance.

“Anywayz”

Tara MacLean & Catherine MacLellan

Two exquisite singer/songwriters, Tara MacLean and her friend Catherine MacLellan, gathered together on Prince Edward Island in the Canadian northeast to record this beautiful song to guide us through the pandemic.

“This Storm”

Lopsided World of L

Jonathan L, new music to escape thoughts of the pandemic.

mxmtoon

mxmtoon, also known as Maia, has dropped a new song.

This teenage singer/songwriter/ukulele player from Oakland is a charm.

“Prom Dress”

“Fever Dream”

U.S. Girls

U.S. Girls is the brainchild of Meghan Remy.

Her 7th album, Heavy Light, is a pop stunner.

One of the first of no doubt many quarantine songs to come.

Benjamin Gibbard, frontman for Death Cab for Cutie, sings “Life In Quarantine”.

“Life In Quarantine”

Die Antwoord

Die Antwoord recently dropped House of Zef.

I like “No.1” from this South African hip hop duo.

“No.1”

Powfu

Powfu, a Canadian rapper, released “Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head)” last month, featuring the delightful Beabadoobee, whose song he sampled.

The song has blown up on TikTok with sentimental videos about relationships.
